The Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) will close down June 30, 2023

The State of California has mandated the closure of DJJ, formerly known for decades as the California Youth Authority. Kids have been transferred back to their County jurisdictions for a transfer hearing under WIC § 731.1 to set aside their DJJ commitment and be sent back to their county of commitment to determine their remaining time. The courts are evaluating whether wards go to a Secure Youth Treatment Facility (SYTF). In San Bernardino County the “Secure Track” is the ARISE program.
